Are you following your calling or just working for money? Working towards your calling is life changing and truly an amazing way to live. If you’re not, read this weeks post to learn how!
You Can Love Your Job, Here's How
Ever since I was about 9 years old, I’ve been playing with computers. I loved them and it’s followed me though the rest of my adult life.
When I graduated high school I got my first semi adult job as a sales rep for Canon printers. I would sit in Best Buy and other stores like that and tell people all about Canon printers.
I took a job soon after at a credit union as a Computer Operator. This is where I really started to get deep into a career with technology. I continued on and on climbing the old tech career ladder.
Eventually, I got to the engineer level and I was making over $80,000 a year which for the midwest is not too bad.
I love technology and enjoy working with it, but I’ve know for a long time I’ve had more of a desire to teach and specifically teach about money related topics.
Over time I’ve realized that while I enjoy my job as a Security Engineer I love teaching others even more and realized that is my true calling.
A Calling or Job?
What are you doing today?
Do you enjoy your job so much that you really wouldn’t rather be doing anything else or do you always wish you were doing something else?
A job is the something you do to make money. You are trading your time and effort for money. You may not love it, but it pays the bills.
A calling is something that you were meant to do. It's making money doing what you know you were meant to do and even love doing.
What are you doing today?
Are you doing your calling? If not, it may be time for a change in your life.
When you are making money doing what you truly love it changes everything.
You may have heard the old saying that if you’re job is what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.
It’s true. Life is different when you are earning money doing what you love.
Chase Your Calling
Sit down, take 5 minutes and think about your job or career. Do you truly love what you’re doing?
If your answer is yes, then you are done. Congratulations, you are living a life that few people live.
You rock and keep going at it!
If you’re not doing what you truly love. You’re not working in your calling then it’s time to take action and switch your focus to your calling.
Career or Entrepreneurship
Once you’ve figured out what your calling is. There are 2 ways you can chase it.
You can work towards a job that aligns with your calling. This is great for people who don’t want to start an entrepreneurial adventure.
If you like being giving direction and like working a secure job environment with others then the career path is probably best for you. You can still chase your calling but in a traditional environment.
Find a job or company that embodies your calling and go for it. Do what it takes to get that job. Complete the schooling you may need, if any. Get the certifications you need.
A while back I decided I wanted to work in IT Security, so I found out what the requirements were to do that. I finished college. I worked on the certification I needed for over a year.
I took action and I did it. You can do the same.
Now, on the other hand, if you can’t chase your calling at a traditional job or you just don’t like the traditional job, you may be more suited for the entrepreneurial path.
This is the path I like best. It has a ton of positives, but it also requires a lot of work.
If you’re driven and self motivated then you may love entrepreneurship. If you had 8 hours by yourself, could you focus on working on your calling?
If you’d get distracted and be unable to achieve your goals on your own then entrepreneurship is probably not for you.
Whatever path you take make sure it’s helping you reach your end goal of chasing your calling.
Once you decide to chase your calling and stop simply working for money it will change your life forever.
