Financial Freedom VS FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early)

The FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) movement is growing and you’d probably be surprised to find out that I’m not a fan.

You don’t see any blog posts from me about FIRE because I don’t work towards it and I simply don’t like what it’s promoting.

If you don’t know what FIRE is, it’s basically a financial strategy that promotes living very frugally so you can save most of your money and be able to retire much earlier than 65.

My question is WHY?! Why would us millennials want to retire early? I go on staycation for a week and I start getting bored. Why would I want to sit around all day and live off of hardly any money?

It appeals to some people, but it’s not for me.

I Promote Financial Freedom

To me financial freedom is building enough wealth that you have the freedom to do whatever you want in life.

You don’t scrape by on beans and rice. You live life to its fullest. We’re only on this planet for a very short time (at least I think) and I believe we should live it to it’s fullest instead of trying to save enough money to do nothing career wise. That’s not fulfilling.

Now, you’re probably saying, well I don’t like my job so that sounds ok with me.

I get that, but what if you had the Financial Freedom to do whatever you wanted in life?

Maybe you’ve had the itch to start a business. Financial Freedom gives you the power to do that without relying on a 9-5.

For me, Financial Freedom, is about taking control of my money and building serious wealth so I can do whatever I want!

Vacations anywhere, your dream house, your dream car, your dream career at a job or entrepreneurial adventure of your choice. That is a life of financial freedom.

Even though I’ve built enough wealth to stop working at a 9-5 job, I choose to do it because I love what I do. I love writing on my website, Money Badass. I love creating, working, and building a fulfilling career.

I have enough income from my multiple streams of income to do whatever I like. That is freedom. That is Financial Freedom.

So what sounds better to you as a millennial who is driven and financially responsible?

FIRE -> Save 70% of your money by scraping by so you can retire from your job and do… nothing? Something…

VS

Financial Freedom -> Take Control of Your Money, Build wealth through multiple income streams, and do whatever you’ve ever dreamed of in life.

I know that I’d take Financial Freedom any day. How about you?
